Street photography is, to me, a strong tool of expression for photographers.
It allows them to use the vibrant street life, the outdoors and the buildings to tell visual stories with various angles and feelings.
Street photography is like cinema, in a certain way.
It tells stories through the subjects and the aesthetics chosen by the photographer and anyone is free to interpret these elements personally – whether the photographer had a specific story to tell or not.
Last December, I visited for the first time an exhibition on Sarah Van Rij named Atlas des Echos at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. I enjoyed this exhibition because the pictures were very beautiful and big.

I like the photographing style of Van Rij because it is both realistic and imaginary, rooted in reality and open to a form of fiction. The colors of her photos are bold and rich, the movement conveyed in her photos is both dynamic and calming.
I also like her collages and how they look like cinematic frames or even movie posters.

Van Rij’s photos have their own atmosphere; they are, to me, a mix of science fiction with a retro style and at the same time, timeless.
I think her work is original and beautiful.
