Photography – especially street photography- is a great tool for documenting a period, a time, an era.
It captures history.
It captures people, streets, landscapes.
It is a tangible witness of time.
Last June, I visited a retrospective exhibition on Robert Doisneau named Robert Doisneau. Instants donnés at the musée Maillol in Paris.
Not only were Doisneau’s pictures very beautiful, but they also gave us a look at what was life like at the time he took them.
They conveyed a certain form of spontaneity, of simplicity, of humanity.
They are a glimpse of the past, of the ordinary lives of ordinary people.
A glimpse taken with great talent and with a personal sensitivity that speaks to anyone.
This exhibition was wonderful.
